Scale the Depths is an indie game developed from the GMTK Game Jam 2024 competition and has quickly attracted the attention of the gaming community thanks to its innovative gameplay and accessible platform: play directly in the browser (HTML5).

The game is set in Loch Ness in Scotland—a land famous for mythical creatures such as Nessie, selkie, kelpie and Beithir. Players will play as a diligent fishing robot, serving fish to friendly sea creatures to earn money to upgrade equipment and explore increasingly greater depths at the bottom of the lake.

How to play - Hook - Scale - Feed - Upgrade

The game revolves around four main actions:

Hook (Fishing): Use the A/D keys to navigate the fishing rod. When colliding with fish, you will reduce their HP until they are caught. Some fish have armor or move quickly, requiring more collisions.

Scale (Scaling): After catching a fish, you use the mouse to pull each piece of scale off. You need to operate gently—if you are too strong, the fish will be damaged, causing you to lose points or income.

Feed (Serve): Each customer creature has its own taste. Based on the expression or satisfaction bar, you will know whether the dish you prepare is to your liking or not. When you serve well, you receive many bonuses.

Upgrade: Use the money you earn to upgrade your fishing rod (length), hook (damage), scaler (speed increase), and storage. These upgrades help you catch more fish, catch them deeper, and serve customers more effectively.
